A Royal Wedding Day Toast To William and Catherine. 29th April 2011
73Diana Would Have Loved It!
Princess Diana would have been so proud!
To see her elder son, Prince William, walk down the aisle of Westminster Abbey ~ supported by his younger brother, Harry ~ to await the arrival of his new bride!
He had set off at 10 am, ready for the marriage service to begin at 11am.
The two boys looked very happy and relaxed ~ and William showed very few signs of nerves. He obviously knew that he was doing exactly the right thing!
The royal family arrived in a cavalcade of cars and coaches.
Just in case it had remained dull, the queen had brought her own bit of sunshine, by dressing in a delightful yellow outfit!
After a period of beautiful weather, it was a little bit dull, but at least it kept dry ~ and the sun did peep through on occasion!

With the queen, was her ebullient husband, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
Like so many male members of the family, he was dressed in military uniform.
William wore his uniform of Colonel of the Irish Guards.

Prince Charles was in attendance, of course, seated next to his parents, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, and with his wife beside him ~ not the groom's mother, since Princess Diana of Wales was killed in a car crash, several years ago.
No, it was his present wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall ~ the woman whom Diana once described as the third person in their marriage.

No Amazon products foundShortly before 11am, it was Catherine Middleton's turn to drive to the Abbey, accompanied by her father.
Her mother and brother were awaiting them there ~ as were her sister and the other bridesmaids, page boys and flower girls.
Kate is very attractive and she looked lovely, in a beautiful gown and rather old-fashioned looking veil.

Rousing music announced to William, and to the hundreds of guests, that his bride had arrived ~ and the service began.
Kate walked up the aisle, in her dress-with-train, on her father's arms, followed by her attendants.
Beautiful music, beautiful words, beautiful clothes ~ and a beautiful couple, so obviously in love.
No wondering whatever love might be, as Prince Charles had mumbled, when he announced his engagement to Diana Spencer.
After a lengthy service, with both Welsh and English hymns, the couple left the Abbey together as the bells pealed out.

Then the couple returned to Buckingham Palace, in an open 1902 Landau carriage, as thousands of well-wishers lined the route.
Thousands more were watching at home ~ indeed, millions ~ all around the world.
Congratulations to the new Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. I wish them well!

Nearly everyone I spoke to over the last week condemed this extravagance. It's so easy and compliant to "Ohhh," and "Ahhh" over the glamor and glitter of a ceremony like this. They are just two people, just like you and me, Trish. Money and power (all stolen) is what seperates them and it's disgusting...Bob

I was kind of expecting this comment, having read your own hub on the subject :)
As someone on TV said, it is an opportunity to take a day out and enjoy being British. It's not just about individuals, it's about heritage ~ and a positive happy event.
But, as far as the individuals are concerned, there are plenty of other 'celebrities' who fascinate the masses ~ so why not Kate and Wills?
They are likely to be our monarchs one day ~ like it or not. And as future monarchs go, they seem to be very decent people.
William's colleagues were talking about how ordinary and nice he is ~ and how he risks his own life, when going on RAF search and rescue missions.
Of course they are just two people, like you or me. But there are plenty of people like you or me, who are esteemed for no good reason. That's the way of the world.
I am a historian. I love history ~ and this is history in the making ~ and it was, indeed, quite moving. For one thing, the people came together in a united and positive way. That has to be good.
There are many worse people than them who have money and power. We are lucky, I think :)
I throughly enjoyed the wedding Trish after all the gloom and doom it made a nice change they are a genuine couple and Diana would have been very proud of William he has chosen well a lovely girl great images too

Trish_M: I think that you have reported this event in a very professional and interesting style. I was not able to watch the event live so I only saw snippets later in the day. My brother told me that he stayed up to watch the event, which I thought was kind of cute! :) And he seems to have enjoyed his armchair invitation, commenting that Wills did not flub his lines. At the time, I did not watch Diana's wedding, which my sister watched and found beauty in it. I recently watched Diana's wedding on YouTube and found a poignant beauty in it. Hopefully some day Wills' wedding will be available. And you're right about this being an event in history. Your photographs are wonderful. Thank you once again for sharing history once again and bringing it to life. Voted up + useful + awesome + beautiful.

I watched both weddings, and think that this one has a better chance of surviving ~ I hope so, anyway :)
It was a very relaxed wedding. The part I liked best was the final drive away in the Learners car.
