'Childhood Wishes?' - A Poem
When I was quite young ...
When I was quite a young girl ~ about 12 or 13 years old ~ a few verses came into my head, one morning, while I was traveling to school on the bus.
I think that I must have been watching the mix of adults and children, and their responses to each other.
It is not real poetry, just a little childhood verse, but the emotion behind it ~ and whatever inspired it ~ still leaves me feeling wistful.
Indeed, as the years disappear, I probably become ever more wistful.
Where does the time go? It seems to fly by ~ and the older we become; the faster it flies.
My poem is below. I hope that you will enjoy reading it.

'Watching and Thinking'
*
An old woman watches children at play.
They are pretending they're married today.
They are pretending they're grown up, 'like Mother'!
Every child thinks much like another.
*
"I'll be glad when I'm adult," hear all of them say.
They don't seem to realise they're growing each day.
They don't understand ~ soon enough they'll be old;
And gradually all of their days will unfold.
*
The woman remembers her own childhood days,
When she too was wishing for adult ways.
Now she just wishes she were like them, again...
When being 'grown up' was simply a game.

- One Is Invited - A Found Poem
What is a 'found poem'? Interesting question ~ answered by Natalie Sack, in her HubPages article, 'Think you don't know how to write poetry? Try Found Poems'. 'One is invited' is my example of such poem, as described by Natalie.
