68My Cosy Comfy Feather, Down and Cotton Bedding
One of the best purchases I ever made was a 'Northern Nights' feather-and-down 'featherbed'. The 'featherbed' is a kind of extra mattress ~ or mattress topper ~ which is extra comfortable! I consider it to be a wonderful product, which can turn any bed into a blissful experience ~ a 'best buy' on my list!.
I happened to see a QVC presentation on the 'featherbed', shortly after
returning from France, where we had been lucky enough to experience feather and
down luxury in our hotel beds. I decided to buy one immediately! (Later I found other similar items and decided to buy feather and down bedding online.)
Our featherbed has two 'chambers', one atop the other. The bottom chamber is full of super soft feathers, to cradle and support us. The top chamber is filled with baby-soft down, to snuggle us in the most delightfully gentle sumptuous luxury.
Going to bed is a wonderfully comfortable experience ~ and I certainly feel that it is a real improvement for my bad back.
To Go With the Featherbed
To go with the featherbed, I also bought a lovely, cosy down duvet (quilt, comforter). It is just so fabulously cuddly! And what is more, there are summer-weight and winter-weight alternatives, so we can still feel wrapped in clouds, even when we don't require the extra warmth of a high-tog-rated down covering.
To complete the 'set' Northern Lights also make down pillows. I have to admit that I haven't actually bought any of these yet. This is because I had some plain feather ones, purchased from Matalan. However, I am hoping to buy some Northern Nights ones soon.
This brings me to the matter of price. 'Northern Nights' down pillows, duvets and featherbeds are not cheap, but they are good quality and they are not the most expensive of their kind. You can purchase items which look similar, and which you may find beautifully comfy and cosy, elsewhere ~ at Matalan for example. You may find feather items, or feather-and-down mixed. You may even choose to buy feather goods from Northern Nights ~ the ones without down ~ which are certainly less expensive, but where the feathers are very soft, compared to some others.
If you suffer with allergies, be sure to find hypo-allergenic pillows and bedding!
Speaking of pillows; I discovered that my Matalan pillows could not be washed! Northern Nights advertise that their down pillows are machine washable. (After discarding two ruined pillows, I invested in some useful, washable, covers.) Furthermore, Northern Nights pillows are especially designed for comfort and support ~ vital for neck and back-pain sufferers. Some Northern Nights pillows are definitely on my shopping list!
I find the softness of the down bedding incomparable. Feathers can poke through the pillows, resulting in a less-than-comfortable night's rest. Down doesn't do this.
I have noticed other makes, that look similar to Northern Nights, on the Internet, but I have not tried them, so cannot comment.
The Northern Nights items mentioned are covered in very good quality cotton fabric, with a high thread count, adding to the comfort.
Quality Cotton Bedding
Northern Nights also provide bed linen. The soft, smooth 100% cotton flannel fabric is high quality and is beautifully warm and inviting in winter. I have some ~ they are lovely!
As well as flannel, Northern Nights also sells various choices of crisp cotton bedding, with threads counts of 300, 350 and 400. The higher the thread count, the softer and more comfortable the bedding. I think that the designs on the bed linen are beautiful.
I have been lucky enough, at times, to purchase some very nice Egyptian cotton sheets, pillow-cases and duvet covers, with a relatively high thread count, from Matalan, so it is possible to have the luxurious feel of quality bedding, without breaking the bank.
Other Items
I notice that, as well as feather (non-down) duvets, pillows and featherbeds, QVC are currently selling the following Northern Nights items, which have both feathers and down ~ the down being closest to the body, thus making the item particularly cosy and comfortable. There is a choice of sizes. Support, comfort and quality appear to be paramount.

I had a brief look at this site and think that it may answer some questions, about 'Thread Count' and 'Fill Power', for example, looking at quality of items, etc. I have not yet purchased items from this company, personally.

Sounds comfy. It is interesting to me that they have summer and winter weights.
People who suffer from many different allergies should probably still avoid feather and down bedding. Or have they somehow treated it so that it is no longer a problem?
Since it is about time for bed over here...this hub was so inviting to read. Making me yawn! :-)
